ABERDEEN NEWS - Many residents were concerned last Thursday to see almost a river of water running along Grey Street in Aberdeen, from the fire hydrant outside the White Elephant second-hand store.
It transpired that the owner of the business had inadvertently reversed into the hydrant when another parked car prevented him from going forward.
This had happened just after 14:00, and it was more than three hours later that the flow from the broken hydrant was eventually stopped.
Several houses had no water during this period, and one resident, living a few houses away in Grey Street, took the precaution of filling buckets from the gushing hydrant in case the problem could not be fixed timeously.
