GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - At a meeting held in Graaff-Reinet on Wednesday 21 October to discuss the future Friends of the Library, it was regretfully decided to end this facility at the Horseshoe Library.
"The library staff have very kindly assisted in many ways, and were thanked for their contribution to the successful running of Friends," the organisation said in a statement.
Friends of the Library, run by a small committee, operated in the town for 14 years. They aimed to make books available, in the library, for members who pay a monthly or annual fee, as well as to non-members willing to pay a fee per book taken out.
Old, tattered and unpopular books were removed from time to time and handed over to the Horseshoe Library to use or to distribute to other libraries in town.
"As from the beginning of December, the collection of good books will become part of Horseshoe Library," the statement read. "Until they are physically integrated into the main collection, books in the Friends' room are available on loan to all members of the Horseshoe Library."
