GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Eight learners of the Progressive Ikamva Combined Special School in Graaff-Reinet had a festive last day of school recently when they were treated to a Christmas party. The learners enjoyed lunch, and of course, no party is complete without a cake.
The learners also enjoyed an outing to Camdeboo National Park on 30 November, and the school thanks Rosemary Scheepers of the park for arranging the outing.
With Andrew Hermaans at the steer, Ikamva operates from the grounds of the Umasizakhe Methodist Church.
Hermaans also visits seven other children with disabilities at their homes, as the school is not able to transport these learners to the school. Adult Basic Education and Training teacher, Eunice Fulani, also teaches the learners, but this was unfortunately disrupted by Covid-19 this year.
The school thanks all those who support the school, especially the Umasizakhe Methodist Church for use of the premises, and Pick n Pay, Blue Sky, Lions Service Club and Trinity Methodist Church for providing lunches for the learners every day, and for paying Hermaans's stipend.
Only two of the facilities learners' families contribute R100 a month to Ikamva. The school receives no payment from the Department of Social Development.
A few of the Ikamva learners enjoy a special Christmas treat.
