GRAAFF-REINET NEWS – The South African National Blood Service is visiting Graaff-Reinet this Monday afternoon, December 11.
They hope to reach their target of 90 units during their visit.
All those willing are asked to please support this blood drive – this will be the last one held this year.
The SANBS’ blood stocks are critically low and with the holiday in full swing the SANBS is finding it difficult to collect the 3 000 units they need on a daily basis.
Huibreght Barnard (pictured here), born June 3 this year, suffered complications shortly after being born.
He could not breath on his own and was connected to 16 machines.
He spent 21 days in the NICU. During that time, he received multiple blood units and blood products.
Without blood, Huibreght would not be able to be the healthy little boy he is today. Thanks to blood donors, Huibreght and his family, can live a normal happy life.
Monday’s blood drive will be held at the hall of the NG Nuwekerk in Caledon Street, Graaff-Reinet between 14:00 and 18:00 – please make an effort to donate.
Anybody willing to donate blood must be:
• Between the ages of 16 – 65 years
• Lead a sexually safe lifestyle
• Be healthy on the day of blood donation
• Weigh more than 50kg
• Eat something substantial in the four hours leading up to the blood donation.
