GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — Democratic Alliance members elected Eldon Carolus as the Dr Beyers Naudé's constituency chairperson for the second term at their recent AGM in Graaff-Reinet.
The Presiding Officer at the meeting was Cllr Leander Kruger, who is a PR Councillor in NMB Municipality and a member of the Eastern Cape ADAC Exco.
ADAC, the Association of Democratic Alliance Councillors, is one of the DA’s ancillary structures, along with DAY (DA Youth) and DAWN (DA Women’s Network) and it functions as a networking, support and development platform for DA Councillors. Samantha Graham will represent this constituency on ADAC.
Hon. Vicky Knoetze, MPL, who is the Constituency Leader, was also present at the meeting and addressed the team with a message about leadership.
Knoetze said that it is easy to be a leader when things are going well, but in the build-up to 2019, things are going to get tough and as leaders, those present must all focus on outdoing themselves.
She urged them to set their own goals and focus on their own vision. As a Constituency, they have consistently performed above all expectations and she does not believe that this will change now. Knoetze congratulated the newly elected team and emphasised that they are going into an election campaign so there will be a lot of hard work ahead.
Knoetze also reminded everyone about the Music Trivia evening to be held on 24 March at the Alex Laing Hall as a fundraiser. Each Councillor has been given tickets to sell.
A total of 17 DA members were elected to the executive committee.
Daniel Williams was elected as deputy chairperson, Linda Botha will be heading the Finance portfolio while Joy Williams will serve as secretary.
The Fundraising portfolio will be managed by Ricardo Smith, and Rochelle Koester was elected to represent DAWN. These two are both activists from ward 5, Kroonvale.
Elridge Ruiters and Rudy Jacobs from Aberdeen will serve as council representatives and Jessica Paulse from Klipplaat as DAY (youth) representative.
