GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The community of Graaff-Reinet is saddened by the recent passing of Counsellor Eldon Carolus on Monday 19 July.
Carolus was elected to Council in 2016 and served as proportional representation (PR) counsellor for the DA in Ward 3.
He served as chief whip for the DA and as the second member of the Budget and Treasury Portfolio since 2016.
Before his election to Council, he used to work in logistics for the Department of Correctional Services.
Carolus struggled with health issues over the last couple of years and was hospitalised with Covid-19 complications. He passed away the same evening.
Carolus was an absolute gentleman who was loved and respected by his family, friends, colleagues, and community. The news of his unexpected and untimely departure was a shock.
On Monday 26 July the mayor, speaker, and several officials of the Dr Beyers Naudé Local Municipality (DBNLM) attended the drive-by memorial service organised by the Congregational Church and the DA to offer condolences to the bereaved family.
Carolus was laid to rest on Wednesday 28 July. He leaves behind his wife, Emily, four children and grandchildren.
