GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Another Covid-19-related death has been reported in Graaff-Reinet, bringing the total for the town to four. No more details have been made available.
Graaff-Reinet is the only town in the Dr Beyers Naudeé Local Municipality (DBNLM) to have recorded any fatalities, and it has the second-highest number of deaths in the Sarah Baartman District Municipality (SBDM).
The number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the DBNLM region has increased to 111, according to the report released by the Department of Health on 1 July.
Statistics shared by the local municipality show that 43 of these cases are active, while 64 have already recovered.
Mayor Deon de Vos conveyed his condolences to the family and friends of the deceased, and wished all those infected a speedy recovery.
The number of confirmed cases in each of the towns in the DBNLM is as follows:
• Graaff- Reinet - 59 confirmed cases, with 22 recoveries, and 4 deaths.
• Willowmore - 29 confirmed cases, 23 recoveries.
• Aberdeen - 15 confirmed cases, 7 recoveries.
• Jansenville - 3 confirmed cases, 1 recovery.
• Klipplaat -2 confirmed cases, with 2 recoveries.
Both Steytlerville and Rietbron have recorded one confirmed positive patient, who have recovered.
The figures published by the SBDM for Aberdeen, on the same date, differ slightly, with Aberdeen shown to have 13 recoveries.
The municipality urges residents to comply with the current lockdown regulations, and to practise good hygiene, ensure social distancing, wear a mask when in public, and where possible, stay at home.
