GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - As a result of excellent investigations by the Graaff-Reinet FCS, several cases of rape have recently resulted in convictions.
Two cases were finalised in the Supreme Court in Somerset East. In both cases, which occurred in March 2016 and March 2017, the suspects were sentenced to life imprisonment.
In June 2016, an elderly lady was raped by two men at her home in the Graaff-Reinet industrial area, while her husband was forced to watch. The suspects, aged 27 and 30 years, were both sentenced to life imprisonment for rape, and 15 years for house robbery.
An 18-year-old woman from Aberdeen was raped in September 2015.
The suspect, a 29-year-old man, has been convicted and sentenced to ten years imprisonment.
