KAROO SPORT NEWS - Niel and Charlene Colyn of Graaff-Reinet Bowling Club will compete in the EP Bowls Mixed Pairs Final on 20 and 21 May in Jeffreys Bay after clinching the Midlands Mixed Pairs bowls competition on the greens of the Cradock Bowling Club two weeks ago.
Thirty eight couples, playing in four sections took part in this popular format of the game.
Each team played in four 16-end rounds on the Saturday, playing with three bowls each.
At the end of play on Saturday, the Colyns and Wally Koetaan and his partner, Riana du Toit, (all from Graaff-Reinet) had qualified for the semi-finals. The Colyn duo had amassed an amazing 121-shot profit, while remaining unbeaten in their section. Koetaan and his partner won their three games and had + 42 shots.
The other two section winners were only to be decided on Sunday morning.
Hansie Jordaan and Priscilla West from Graaff-Reinet on 6 game points and + 16 shots and Jaco Meyer from Middleburg and Helene de Wet from Graaff-Reine on 6 + 32 were the other two semi-finalists.
Graaff-Reinet Bowling Club had an impressive seven bowlers in the semis.
The Jordaan/West combination narrowly beat Meyer and de Wet by 21 - 20, while the Colyn partnership took care of the Koetaan/du Toit duo 22 - 20.
The final, an all Graaff-Reinet Bowling Club affair, saw the Colyns defeat the Jordaan/West combination 20 - 13.
The Colyns will compete in the EP Bowls Mixed Pairs Final on 20/21 May.
BSA Nationals
The Bowling South Africa Nationals for men and women got underway on 6 May and ends on Sunday 14 May.
