GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - A blind Graaff-Reinet teenage girl and her family are appealing to local residents for financial contributions towards her sporting dream.
The aspiring young athlete has her mind set on competing in the 2018 SASAPD National Championships taking place in Bloemfontein on March 29.
On November 30, 2017, Vuyiseka Avril Wessels was invited to be apart of this prestigious event by the Western Cape Sporting Association for the physically disabled.
Vuyiseka’s sporting career took off when she relocated to Cape Town in order to attend the Athlone School for the Blind.
She has won countless medals from her athletic endeavours even competing and winning many awards in sporting competitions in other countries such as Angola.
Her talent and dedication towards her sporting career have been applauded by not only the Western Cape Sporting Association but also by her family, coaches and peers.
Vuyiseka is optimistic about her future and dreams of competing in many more national sporting competitions for disabled athletes as well as international sporting events in the future.
Coming from an underprivileged background, however, means the aspiring young sports star and her family have the task of raising the money needed to make this opportunity possible.
In order to help her daughter attend this sporting event, Vuyiseka’s mother - who is unfortunately unemployed - approached Ward Councillor Glenda Mackelina.
With the help of the community, Mackelina is hoping to raise the funding of R5 000 needed to cover various aspects of the trip.
The money will go towards a list of amenities including accommodation, transportation and uniform such as team tracksuits and the like.
Any financial contributions, sponsorships or assistance from individuals and businesses are welcome and will be of great assistance in helping make this dream a reality.
Should any community members be interested in donating towards this cause please contact Councillor Glenda Mackelina on 060 5082 752.
