GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The annual Flower Festival at St James’ Church at the end of October will be a little different this year, with the theme: Pots, Poetry and Prose to honour our God, the Potter and Provider.
“Our Festival this year is a statement of faith in the goodness of God, and we are hoping that as many of Graaff-Reinet’s residents as possible will take part,” said Jill Rose-Innes, one of the organisers.
“We would like people to bring arrangements of flowers, indigenous plants, cacti, fruit, herbs and even vegetables in pottery containers,” she explained. These should be delivered to the church in Somerset Street any time from 8am on Thursday 24 October. The arrangements will be displayed inside the church. Contributors are also encouraged to bring printed poetry and prose to accompany their arrangements.
The Flower Festival will be open to the public on Friday 25 October from 9am to 5.30pm, and on Saturday 26 October from 9am until 11.30am.
The tranquil garden of the church will be the setting for refreshments on the Friday. Tea and scones will be served during the morning and afternoon, and lunch from noon.
“Should we be blessed with rain on the day, we will all most joyfully have tea and lunch in the church hall, said Rose-Innes.
There is no entrance fee, but donations will be very welcome.
