GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - All alone in a new town, feeling cut off from the rest of the world shortly after the lockdown kicked in last year, Lizanne Opperman from Graaff-Reinet decided to adopt Angus from the SPCA.
"I moved to Graaff-Reinet in March last year and at the end of March lockdown happened. After many months of feeling helpless and overwhelmed by my situation, I spotted this adorable puppy on the SPCA's Facebook page and fell in love. He looked like such a dapper dog," says Lizanne.
With little encouragement needed from her boyfriend who was staying in Kirkwood at the time, Lizanne jumped at the opportunity to give the white Scottish terrier cross a new and loving home.
"Hanno said I should adopt Angus, as coming home to a dog would make life better for me. Two short weeks later I brought home the perfect dog."
This energetic canine now lives a life of luxury with Lizanne in Graaff-Reinet and has everything his doggy heart could every wish for.
"He is the best protector and companion a girl could ask for. We go on long walks through Graaff-Reinet every day and I simply cannot imagine my life without him. He has made such a a huge impact on our lives. He is a goofball and makes me laugh every day," she says.
Lizanne describes Angus's adoption as one of the most rewarding things she has ever done in her life. "You could see how much the SPCA staff love the animals and wanted good homes for them all. I really hope our story encourages other people to rather adopt and not shop."
Lizanne and Hanno will be adopting a friend for Angus soon. "We rescued each other. I promise you, you won't find greater love than that of an adopted pet."
