ABERDEEN NEWS — There were no serious property-related crimes reported to the Aberdeen police in the last week.
Three cases of possession of a small amount of dagga were opened, and there were four cases of assault with grievous bodily harm reported over the weekend.
SAPS Station Commander Captain Advocate Qashani is pleased with the improved crime statistics. He explained to the Advertiser that currently, SAPS patrols are focusing on certain streets with their visibility, ensuring the safety of the town’s elderly people and their properties. They have initiated vehicle checkpoints focusing on the town and the townships. The community sees the SAPS members enforcing traffic offences and preventing other crimes, which has helped tremendously.
“We started with our Sport Against Crime event, and intend to continue with other engagements or outreach programmes enhancing crime prevention,” said Capt Qashani.
He added that the SAPS members are very positive towards the strategy, and they look forward to positive successes. “Members of the detective branch assist us with reactive policing whereby they arrest known suspects in reported cases” he continued. They plan to continue monitoring this initiative and will enrich it where they can.
Captain Qashani ended with a plea to the community not to encourage crime by buying stolen properties such as sheep carcasses and other properties promoting burglaries. If there is no market for these stolen goods, there is much less incentive to steal.
