ABERDEEN NEWS — A few weeks ago, the Graaff-Reinet Advertiser was contacted by several people concerned at the dreadful state of the municipal tip.
Since August, it has been getting progressively worse, with the approach road inaccessible due to rubbish being dumped on the road. The control room, from which workers are supposed to direct those wishing to offload rubbish to the correct area, was an island in the sea of rubbish. The problem became progressively worse, and people had no other option but to dump on the approach road.
The area outside the fencing, to the left of the approach road, seems to have become the overflow area for the tip, and whenever there are strong winds, this rubbish is blown far and wide.
At last, there seems to be some relief, as earlier this week a municipal tractor was seen clearing the roadway.
It is understood that there have been problems with vehicles, but the state of the tip was becoming not only an eyesore but also surely a health hazard.
Thanks to the municipality for at last making the area accessible again!
This week, after the approach road was cleared.
