ABERDEEN NEWS — A case of attempted murder was opened by Aberdeen police after a man was almost run over, intentionally, in an incident on the Klipplaat road last Sunday.
The victim was on his way home at 18:15 when the vehicle, driven by someone known to him, drove at a high speed towards him.
He tried to jump out of the way, but the vehicle knocked into him and he fell to the ground. The driver then stopped and sprayed the man with pepper spray, before getting back into his vehicle and starting it again. He again tried to hit the victim, but without success, and then drove off. The suspect is known but has not yet been arrested.
There were two cases of residential burglary, one in Lotusville and one in Thembalesizwe.
In the first one, the complainant locked the door of the storeroom at her home in Hoffman Street, Lotusville at 19:00 on 23 October, but the next day, a family member of her informed her that the storeroom’s door was wide open. She went to investigate at 06:30 and found her blender and Tupperware containers had been stolen.
The second incident took place between 09:00 on 22 October and 08:00 on 27 October at a house in Thangana St, Thembalesizwe. According to the complainant, she sent the suspect (who is known to her) to her sister’s residence to change the door locks. He reported to her that all was well, and that the job had been completed. However when the woman went to her sister’s house on 27 October she saw that the burglar door had been forced open to gain entrance. A four plate stove was stolen.
A burglary took place at business premises in Rafferty Street, Lotusville. According to the complainant, he was asleep on Sunday morning but was woken at 02:40 by a noise coming from the shop. He got up to investigate and found one suspect standing in front of the shop’s counter and another other behind it. He shouted at them, but unfortunately they managed to run away with the shop’s cash register. Entrance was gained by breaking the locks of the burglar door.
A car radio, valued at R1 500 was stolen from a car in Nosimo Balindlela Street, Thembalesizwe during the night of 24 October. A window was forced open to get into the vehicle.
A case of stock theft was opened after police members on patrols at 03:05 on 26 October at Bokpos farm came upon a fresh slaughter scene. They walked through the camp and found a suspect trying to run away. Two suspects were later arrested, and the investigation continues.
The final Aberdeen case, of shoplifting, took place on 27 October at 15:15 at a shop in Voortrekker Street. The suspect entered the shop and roused the suspicions of the security guard, who then asked the suspect if he could search him. The suspect agreed to the search, and the security guard then found six packets of spices, value R56.97, hidden around the suspect’s genitals. The suspect has been arrested.
There were five suspects in total arrested in the past week, including those mentioned above for stock theft and shoplifting. One was also arrested for contravening a protection order, and one for assault GBH. There were additional two arrests for being drunk and disorderly.
Three suspects were also convicted and sentenced. For theft, both suspects were given a fine of R1 200 or three months’ imprisonment, suspended for five years. For assault GBH, the sentence was 18 months imprisonment suspended for five years.
