GRAAFF-REINET — During the recent local government elections, the following candidates were elected as ward councillors for the new Dr Beyers Naudé Municipality.
The percentage in brackets accounts for the total votes the candidates received in their respective wards:
- Ward 1: Willem Säfers ANC (52.88%)
- Ward 2: Linda Botha DA (76.3%)
- Ward 3: Katie Hoff man ANC (51.98%)
- Ward 4: Xolile Galada ANC (72.56%)
- Ward 5: Glenda Mackelina DA (61.21%)
- Ward 6: Thembile Tshona ANC (90.96%)
- Ward 7: Rudy Jacobs DA (74.8%)
- Ward 8: Ewald Loock DA (56.03%)
- Ward 9: Piet Bees ANC (53.65%)
- Ward 10: Louis Langeveldt ANC (56.46%)
- Ward 11: Abraham Arries ANC (62.72%)
- Ward 12: Daniel Bezuidenhout DA (67.27%)
- Ward 13: Errol Rossouw ANC (62.07%)
- Ward 14: Joy Williams DA (49.57%)
As can be seen from the results, many of the wards were keenly contested.
The results for ward 8 were published quite a while after the other wards - at the WDC Clinic in this ward, both the ANC and DA candidates received 49.92% of the vote!
Six ANC candidates were appointed as PR councillors: Pieter Koeberg, Deon de Vos, Notizi Vanda, Thembisa Nonnies, Angeline Booysen and Asanda Mboneni.
The outgoing mayor of the Camdeboo Municipality, Hanna Makoba, was seventh on the PR list, and thus not appointed as a councillor.
The seven DA PR councillors are: Samantha Jankovich, Daniel Williams, Wilton Le Grange, Eldan Carolus, Eldrige Ruiters, Hendrik (Japie) Booysen and Wayne Seekoei.
