GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — Two local stock theft suspects found themselves on the wrong side of the law when they were recently convicted and sentenced in the local magistrate's court.
According to police spokesperson, W/O Gerrie van Rooyen, two local residents, Gerald Samuels (23) and Donovan Samuels (31) were both sentenced to 36 months imprisonment after they were convicted on a charge of stock theft on June 6.
Twelve months of the sentence was conditionally suspended. Their conviction follows the theft of 13 Dorper sheep from the farm Brakfontein in the Graaff-Reinet district on January 31, 2015.
Van Rooyen welcomed the conviction and sentence and expressed the hope that it might serve as deterrence to would be stock thieves.
