NATIONAL NEWS - A rhino named Thandi that survived a brutal attack at the Kariega Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape some four years ago, is the inspiration behind the Rhino Run, a global trail running event to raise funds and awareness against rhino poaching.
Thandi was one of three rhinos that was attacked by well-equipped poachers who hacked off their horns. One of the rhinos died on that day while another succumbed to his injuries a few weeks later. Thandi was the only survivor.
Founded by Sian O’Keefe, this year on Sunday 25 September the Rhino Run is staging five separate trail-running events located around South Africa, as well as the first official international run in Mississippi in the US.
In George the Rhino Run will take place at 08:00 and starts at the Mount View Resort. RTT and Courier IT will join forces and man the water tables for the event.
Participants can register for a 3km and 10km run on the day. The entry fee is a donation of R40 or more.
