GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — The Council of the Dr Beyers Naudé Local Municipality requests the residents of the municipality to assist in drastically cutting water consumption in order to avoid an impending water shortage disaster.
This is because water provisions are running low. As a result of the drought conditions and the hot summer weather, the water level of the Nqweba Dam has dropped drastically and now lies below 30%. The quality of water is also deteriorating but is still safe to drink.
The Municipality is now forced to utilise more boreholes that will also affect the quality of the water to all consumers of Graaff-Reinet.
Residents are requested to please save water and use it sparingly to prevent any water restrictions being imposed.
Should satisfactory results not be achieved, more stringent water restriction measures will be implemented.
