GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — Local veterinary doctor, Dr Roland Larson, recently attended a gala dinner in Johannesburg, hosted by the South African Veterinary Association, where he was presented with the Ricky Wilson award.
The award, in recognition by peers, honours actively practising rural veterinarians who have consistently (for over 20 years) rendered an excellent service to clients and who have served as a model and inspiration for fellow practitioners.
The award was bestowed upon Dr Roland Larson in acknowledgement of his remarkable dedication he has displayed throughout his career and also for the contributions he has made in rural practice and education.
The native Graaff-Reinet Veterinary Doctor qualified with a BVSc from Onderstepoort Veterinary Institute in Pretoria and has been practising locally for over 30 years.
He runs his practice along with his wife, Christa Larson, a qualified veterinary nurse. He is also an active member of the Graaff-Reinet community having served on the Union High Governing Body as well as coaching school rugby.
Dr Larson described being chosen as the recipient of this award as a truly humbling experience and added that his chosen profession is not an easy one, with highs and lows each day but ultimately he finds solace in the fact that he has, without a doubt, gave his best each day.
He also regarded receiving this award from his peers as the ultimate accolade which has made each challenge worthwhile and inspired him to do even better moving forward.
