NIEU-BETHESDA NEWS — During the Winter months, Nieu-Bethesda’s thermometers can drop to -12°C.
The children of Lettie de Klerk are in desperate need of warm garments to keep them cosy in these extreme temperatures.
The Nieu-Bethesda Community Craft Project, under the guidance of Heidi Kuhne-Boekkooi, is appealing to the local community to become involved in any small way to keep Bethesda’s children warm this winter.
While there are many willing hands to knit beanies, gloves and scarves that that can be worn with the maroon school uniform (see photo), there is a shortage of materials to do so.
Jackie Bezuidenhout at Loop Wool Boutique in Church Street, Graaff-Reinet, is selling the charity knit wool (Maroon, no 018) as well as the number 4, 5 and 5.5 knitting needles that are required. One ball of wool can make a beanie or two gloves or a scarf.
Kuhne-Boekkooi has also offered, in an extra bid to raise funds for this worthwhile charity, to make everything apart from paintings, in her shop in Bethesda, available on a ‘take and donate’ basis.
Kuhne-Boekkooi says, “This is a great time to stock up on books, winter woollies and bead craft while supporting this venture.” So pop in at Loop Wool Boutique and make a donation to this worthy cause. Materials can simply be left with Jackie and Heidi will collect them.
