GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Graaff-Reinet SAPS made 47 arrests last week, of which 28 were for serious offences.
In violent crimes, five suspects were arrested for assault GBH, and four for common assault.
In property-related crimes, there were five arrests for housebreaking and theft, two for shoplifting, three for theft, and one for theft from a motor vehicle.
Two suspects were also arrested for being in possession of suspected stolen goods.
Three arrests were made for contravention of a protection order, one person on a warrant of arrest, and two for possession of drugs.
The lesser offences saw 11 people being held for being drunk and disorderly, seven for drinking in public, and one for a traffic violation.
There was one conviction in the Graaff-Reinet court. The accused was sentenced to eight months’ imprisonment, suspended for five years, for housebreaking and theft.
Goods confiscated this week were four knives, crushed Mandrax and tik drugs, one Samsung cellphone, tools (a wheel spanner and pair of pliers), a quantity of green netting, one wooden door, a bank card, and 55 bompies of dagga.
