GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — Monday, April 10, was the deadline for the 40 Bags in 40 Days initiative organised by Country Mouse, which ran over the 40 days of Lent. Over 60 bags were collected!
Nicola Beldon would like to thank all of those who contributed to this successful project. “No matter how big or small your bag was, I appreciate your effort to bring it here, and am sure each item will be gratefully received by people in need” she enthused.
Several people volunteered to help sort the bags, but Beldon felt that it would be easier, with the limited space available, for one person to sort through everything and make sure it is all evenly distributed.
The sorting process is almost complete, and several of the bags have already been dropped off with the designated charities. Some items will be patched and repaired by Liesl at Country Mouse before being distributed to the recipients.
Beldon’s only concern has been that by far the majority of donations have been of items of clothing, and therefore the animal charities (SPCA and CSI) will be receiving very little. For this reason, Country Mouse has decided to hold back some of the as-new ladies’ clothing from quality brands, (such as Woolworth, Queenspark, Marks & Spencer, Old Khaki, and Jeep) and other designer labels.
These items will be for sale from Country Mouse for people to purchase, and the proceeds will then be divided between CSI and the local SPCA.
The Autumn Charity Sale at Country Mouse, where these items will be sold on behalf of SPCA and CSI, will run from Tuesday, May 2 until Friday, May 12.
The clothing is in a wide selection of sizes, big and small, with items for both casual and more formal wear.
