GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — Two years ago in 2015, a R7 million entertainment venue opened its doors in Graaff-Reinet - not only bringing in a new era for entertainment in the town, but also providing employment for up to 36 locals, many of which have never been employed.
Goldrush Bingo & Entertainment Graaff-Reinet is the second Goldrush branch to open in the Eastern Cape by South Africa’s largest and most experienced bingo operator.
Goldrush Bingo Graaff-Reinet is situated along the main road (Church Street) and will feature a wide selection of electronic bingo terminals, and an upmarket licenced restaurant 49’ers café, bar and diner, aptly named after the “gold-seekers” during the 1849 Goldrush in America.
The restaurant offers food and beverages daily until midnight. A children’s playroom equipped with electronic games keeps the young ones entertained.
This development consists of a unique partnership between the Goldrush Group (51%) and Eastern Cape based shareholders (49%), headed by Ncebakazi Makehle (Chairperson) and accompanied by Mr M Naidoo and Mr A Pemba on the Board of Directors.
In addition to creating employment, local suppliers are used where possible and together with the training of local people, this new establishment has become a popular place for local people to meet and socialise in a safe and secure environment. Goldrush Graaff-Reinet contributed to the provincial coffers by paying approximately R6 million in gaming taxes and R6 million in VAT and other taxes in the first year of operation.
The design of Goldrush Graaff-Reinet allows for patrons to enter via two entrances, either directly into the restaurant or into the bingo area where a welcome desk is conveniently located. Besides the sleek finishes, large screens provide sporting action and more.
The Goldrush Group was originally Viva Bingo, a name synonymous with the bingo industry in the country since 1997.The company has recently been re-branded as the Goldrush Gaming Group and the re-branding has proven itself already with eleven other branches now open in Gauteng, Mpumalanga and North West provinces.
The Goldrush Group is committed to the upliftment of its surrounding communities and it is estimated that over R1 million is spent annually on its CSI initiatives in the arts, culture, sports and tourism sectors. Before opening, a substantial contribution of R25 000 was already made towards the Vuyani Safe Haven for Children located in the town, providing much needed bedding and clothing cupboards.
The Goldrush Group is and will remain a supporter and contributor of the National Responsible Gambling Programme.
The Bingo area is strictly controlled and only be open to patrons who are 18 years and older. A zero tolerance policy is strictly applied to underage gambling and the over consumption of liquor.
