GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The Eastern Cape has been one of the hardest provinces hit by a drought in recent months. The province has been declared a disaster area. The Eastern Cape received less than 30% of its usual average spring rainfall between September and November with drought-stricken Graaff-Reinet receiving only 12%, according to statistics released by the South African Weather Service. The town's main water supply, the Nqweba Dam is currently standing on 8%, and residents are still relying on trucks to deliver water. Graaff-Reinet is having its worst drought on record.
The inaugural Easter Explosion benefit awareness concert will be launched on Saturday 11 April 2020 at the Fred Hufkie Oval in Graaff-Reinet from 12pm until late.
The event will headline Dr Victor & The Rasta Rebels, DJ Jazzy D (The Groovemaster), The PE Boys, Bevin Samuels (Idols), The Stones Sisters and all local gems from Graaff-Reinet. This event is a proud initiative of Zane Koeberg, born and raised in Graaff-Reinet.

“The aim of this event, is firstly to assist with the drought relief that is currently happening in Graaff-Reinet and also to revive the performing arts in the area. This will be an annual event and out of this event we will be looking at ploughing back at the community such as education. This is been a lifelong pipe dream for myself being born in South Africa’s fourth oldest town,” Zane Koeberg.
“I’m quite excited about this because this show is to cater for both young and old. We just recently signed a dance group from Port Elizabeth, The PE Boys, which gone viral on the Kelly Clarkson Show in the US. All of them will help the folks to reminisce about yester years and more of an old school vibe. We have Dr Victor and The Rasta Rebels that will cater for the mature audience as well as DJ Jazzy D from Jacaranda FM. We got some curtain raisers of local artists that will be sharing the stage with these guys. The exposure for the local artists is going to be astronomical at that level, because most of them have not really been exposed to this level of production.”

“It's a family type of event. We picked Easter as many people go back home apart from the festive seasons. There’s a lot of excitement around this. The word is already been out there and we just want to officiate this and get everybody on board including our local municipality and other stakeholders.”

“As this is an awareness concert, we urge each and everyone attending the event to bring a 5L bottle water to support the local farmers and the people of Graaff-Reinet.
