ABERDEEN NEWS — On Wednesday, November 15, the Aberdeen Farmers' Association held their annual rally, which was made even more special by the longed-for rain which continued to fall during the day.
A total of 26 bakkies with drivers and navigators arrived at the Aberdeen Club to compete in the rally.
Registration was at 08:30 when all the details and rules were explained to the contestants. Everyone left for the four farms in the district which hosted the events, each of which had practical and technical activities to be completed by the contestants.
The Farmers Association is very grateful to the hosts, and to the sponsors who made the day possible.
Christo Lategan of Kaapsepoortjie had the sponsors SSK, Virbac, Stafix, Montego, Atlantic Oil, Arena Pumps and SAMGA. At Hommie Slabbert’s farm Louisan, OVK, Supa Quick, Standard Bank, Cipla and Land Bank were the sponsors.
On Fanie de Jager’s Koringdal the activities were organized by B.K.B, Voermol, Cape Gate, Zoetis, Nemtek and ABC Pumps. Afrivet, RCL Foods, RSA Grain Storage Solutions, Rumax, Drostdy Toyota, GBG and GWK tested the contestants at Arno de Jager’s Arcadia.
A special word of thanks must go to Land Bank and SAMGA for their financial contribution for the day, which is greatly appreciated.
The organisers were delighted to see the participation of 13 ladies who accompanied their husbands, boyfriends or parents.
The long day ended at the Aberdeen Club with much-needed refreshments and a well-earned steak prepared by Garth Featherstone, Lloyd McNaughton, Riandre van Heerden, and OJ Moolman.
The final event of the day was the eagerly-awaited prize giving. The overall winners this year were Roelfie van der Merwe and Myburgh van Rensburg.
