NIEU-BETHESDA NEWS — What happens when you take a beautiful Karoo farm, some crazy dreamers and a group of amazing experimental art making do-ers and put them together?
You get RESTFEST!
The Easter holiday is two weeks long this year, and what better way than to spend the last weekend than to take the family 20 minutes beyond Nieu-Bethesda, and unwind on ‘The Rest’. The RestFest takes place from April 14 to 17.
This is a unique festival where participants create the festival. There is space for about 30 campers on The Rest. These will be the people who perform, conduct workshops, create happenings, cook food, clean up and do all the work to make it happen. They don’t pay to come and are not paid to perform. There will be one communal meal a day which all campers will contribute to the making and the eating of.
Daytrippers are invited to come and enjoy the offerings and they are expected to pay a fee for the day. The fee is based on “what it’s worth to you” and will help cover some of the basic costs of the festival.
Some amazing events are on offer already:
Dion Viljoen will be offering Intuitive Movement sunrise conscious dances and DJ performance under the night sky. Well, known actress, Frances Slabolepszy will be collaborating to create an interactive performance that combines hairstyling and poetry/singing/drama.
Paula Kingwill will be running a couple of drama therapy workshops. There will be art-making workshops, performance workshops and even a communal nap session. Come and learn the art of breadmaking with Bronwen Langmead. There will be fantastic musical performances and communal music-making experiences. A storytelling barista will make your coffee!
A program will be available mid-March with more detailed information. There are a few camping spots left. Email Paula on karoorest@gmail.com to obtain your application form. If you would like to offer a food or goods stall (only home-made goods will be allowed) please contact Paula Kingwill to find out more. Don’t miss out on this wonderful opportunity to learn something new in the Karoo!
