KAROO NEWS - The Nedbank Gravel Burn 2026 will be supported through a unique partnership with industry brands to provide tech support for the seven-day gravel stage race in the Karoo from 25 to 31 October. The announcement was made in a press release by Nedbank media representative Sarah Harrop on 8 July.
The event’s industry partners, Shimano and SRAM, will provide tech support to all riders at all farm stalls.
Harrop emphasised that this partnership will provide the same level of support to every rider in keeping with the event’s non-exclusive, collaborative approach to bike industry partnerships. “Neutral tech support is important as mechanical faults do happen, but a single, hidden rock should never be the cause of a rider being unable to continue with their race,” she said.
In addition, at the burn camps after each stage, service providers will offer comprehensive maintenance and repair packages in the designated workshop areas. Parts depots with SRAM, Shimano and Campagnolo, as well as warranty support and workshop know-how, will be available.
Kevin Vermaak, founder of Nedbank Gravel Burn, said the priority is getting the rider to the finish. “This supersedes any exclusive sponsorship deal. Riders may choose a provider and reserve a slot directly with them. There will be top-level support for the riders, covering almost any eventuality.”

Sam Bull at Rush Sports (representing SRAM in South Africa) said the partnership is about backing riders in real conditions, where riders put their bikes through tough terrain, and the demand on equipment is extreme. “Being a part of Nedbank Gravel Burn is about helping riders get back on the road when things go wrong.”
Steve Meltzer at Coolheat said, “Riders deserve the same confidence in the middle of the Karoo that they have at home. We are proud to join as an industry partner, working alongside SRAM so riders can focus on the race, knowing support is there if they need it.”
Nedbank Gravel Burn is a seven day, 750km gravel stage race set entirely in the Eastern Cape. Starting in the historic Robert Sobukwe Town / Graaff-Reinet, the race journeys deep into remote semi-desert landscapes, with all riders staying together in the purpose-built burn camps. The route spans the Great Karoo, concludes in Big 5 territory at Shamwari Private Game Reserve and visits the Indian Ocean along the way.
