GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — Women from all denominations attended the Women’s World Day of Prayer, held this year at St James Anglican Church.
The host country this year was Suriname, a small country on the northern coast of South America. The women of Suriname chose as their theme: “All God’s creation was very good.”
The Rev Dr Mark Marais and his wife, Moyra started at St James in January and Moyra led the service with the help of women from the community. She pointed out that South Africa and Suriname share a Dutch heritage and a multicultural people. Both have a rich natural diversity. The women of Suriname lift up their voices to remind us that we are caretakers of God’s creation and appeal to women of the world to commit themselves to caring for our natural resources.
Displays in the church depicted the rainforests and products of Suriname.
Another display was a reminder that recycling is one way we can all show our commitment to caring for our world.
