JANSENVILLE NEWS - A Grade 10 learner from Gcinubuzwe Combined School, Endinako Jola (18), has been selected to represent South Africa in the 3 000m at the Cossasa (Confederation of School Sport Associations of Southern Africa) Games in Swaziland from 23 to 29 August.
Jola, as the only athlete from the Eastern Cape to be selected for this event, is the pride of the Eastern Cape Schools Athletics.
Jola was a gold medallist and record breaker at the National Schools Athletics Championship held in Bloemfontein in April.
His father and coach, Luthando Sikiwe, is very happy with Jola's progress and proudly says that he also does cross-country marathons, field items, and track items (1 500m and 800m).
The school's principal, Vuyolwethu Mbune, is excited about the great news and appeals to the public and community to support Jola in this endeavour .
This is a self-funded championship and Jola still needs some financial support to be able to attend.
The costs are R2 500 for sports wear, R2 000 for transport, R1 800 for catering, and R3 700 for accommodation.
Eastern Cape Schools Athletics promised to assist with R2 000.
Jola's parents and his school ask for donations and/or funding from the community.
“I believe and know that God is with us daily and we will achieve this goal.
This is a lifetime opportunity for him to represent our country,” Sikiwe says. “This is a lifetime opportunity.”
Sikiwe can be contacted on 067 858 7710 or 065 170 5974 (WhatsApp).
Any donations towards athletic gear or cash that will enable Jola to go to Swaziland will be greatly appreciated.
