GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - A generous donation of 15 water tanks by the SANParks Honorary Rangers will bring access to water closer to home for some communities in Graaff-Reinet.
People and conservation officer, Rosemary Scheepers of SANParks, said areas within the Graaff-Reinet community, especially high lying areas, have been identified as areas where residents struggle to gain access to water.
"These tanks will be strategically placed, where the elderly, disabled and less fortunate will have easy access to it without disturbing the resident on whose property the tanks are situated," said Noluvo Mbanyana of the Dr Beyer Naudé Local Municipality. This decision was taken by the Municipality and SANParks to stop vandalism to this precious resource.
Thanks to this volunteer organisation of SANParks, the first 5 000 litre water tank was installed by the municipality and filled at 2414 7de Laan in Umasizakhe, Graaff-Reinet. This was done under the watchful eye of Scheepers and Chris de Vos of the SANParks Honorary Rangers.
These tanks will be filled by the municipality or Gift of the Givers regularly or when the need arises.
They will utilise one of the several boreholes drilled by Gift of the Givers.
The areas where the tanks will be placed include Kroonvale, Hope Street and Umasizakhe.
