GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Before Trinity Methodist Church in Graaff-Reinet could open for 2021, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that no indoor gatherings would be allowed, including church services.
But, where there's a will there's a way and through the innovation of Bishop Louis Williams, the overseer of this Circuit of the Methodist Church of Southern Africa who is stationed in Graaff-Reinet, a plan was made to serve the congregation.
An invitation to attend a drive-in service at the church on 10 January to start the year on an inspirational note, was enthusiastically received.
Rev Williams parked his car in front of the church and the congregation joined him, parking at the church, the church office and even across the road.
His message was then broadcast to each individual and family sitting in their vehicles, by using a specific radio frequency.
Those who attended found it “very special”, “even though we were apart, we were united”, “a wonderful, unique experience” to mention but a few of the comments.
Before the service, the congregation could partake in a walk-through communion.
Attendees, keeping to Covid-19 regulations, briefly entered the church, could partake by themselves and then leave before the next person was allowed in - again a unique experience for those present.
