NOUPOORT NEWS - A Noupoort post office official has been suspended and faces at least four fraud charges, after money disappeared from local saving accounts.
A spokesperson for the Noupoort SAPS, W/O Maritza Stander, said police are investigating four fraud charges to the value of more than R80 000 against the suspect.
The Noupoort Post Office confirmed the cashier was suspended, but did not elaborate on the issue. It is alleged that he withdrew money from clients' accounts.
Stander told the Advertiser that the dockets are at the court, where the state prosecutor must decide if the four cases will be combined into one fraud docket, or if the suspect will face four separate charges.
The identity of the suspect is known to the Advertiser, but cannot be published before his court appearance. Stander said the cashier will be arrested after the investigation is complete.
Three of the four fraud cases involve amounts of R60 000, R9 000 and R7 000. The value of the fourth fraud case could not be confirmed.
