GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Ten Grade Three learners of Laer Volkskool, as well as their teachers, are under isolation after a learner tested positive for Covid-19.
The learner’s test results were received yesterday, 22 July.
The school remains open.
According to headmaster Deon Joubert, the isolation of the learners is a health measure to prevent the spread of the virus, as prescribed by the National Department of Health. Joubert says the pupil did not contract the virus at school.
Joubert explained that the two Grade Three classes are divided into groups of two each, who take turns attending school on different days. Only one group is under isolation, while the rest of the learners continue with school attendance.
Joubert says he contacted the Department of Health immediately after receiving the news. They visited the school and decided on a protocol. The school will support the ten learners academically.
Joubert assured parents and learners after consultation with the Department of Health that there was no cause for concern.
"We will take all possible steps to keep your children safe," Joubert wrote in a letter to parents.
